  • Slightly reserved red fruit (cherry - fruit stronger with air), good spice, good minerality. Needs air. Good acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

  • Very earthy nose, reminiscent of truffles, mushrooms, and a tad of barnyard. Tastes of loam, mushrooms, prunes, plums, and other dark fruit.

  • Tasted this alongside the '98 Geantet-Pansiot Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru. I'm new to Burgundy, so it was a nice primer on teroir and style trying these two extermely different Cote de Nuits from the same vintage side by side. This was incredibly fragrant, with loads of exotic spice character and a violet element on the nose that I found verged on becoming cloying. On the palate this had strong primary cherry and plum characteristics and secondary hints of earth and meat, a slightly bizarre but still compelling combination. The wine had good persistence and developed well over a couple hours, but never really quite blew off that slightly too overt floral character. A fascinating wine, but not really in balance.

Burgundy-Report

(Gros Frère & Soeur Vosne-Romanée) Good deep colour, still shaded to cherry red. The nose is deep, black and spicy - just a little high tone akin to a redcurrant and raspberry mix, becomes quite blackberry then more raisined. The palate has plenty of drying tannin - slightly astringent at the end and a black aspect to fruit here too. Good length and acidity. This wine is super, but very, very young - I'd go for this ahead of the Grivot.
