I’m no expert on this wine type but the examples I’ve had have been highly alcohol driven, strong muscat flavors, and little else. Obviously, this has a strong muscat smell, but it also has a strong chalky edge to it that suggests that the winemaker cares about terroir and quality over producing a cheap fortified muscat. At Vino’s in Honolulu.

Dead-ringer muscat. Extremely floral, redolent of jasmine, citrus blossoms and honeysuckle. Lightly sweet, but not cloying. Excellent with cheese-based desserts.

WSET III, part 2; 12/3/2011-12/4/2011 (Portland, ME): Clear; medium lemon-gold color with watery rim. Clean, youthful, pronounced nose of orange, apricot, honey, pear, flowers. Palate has same descriptors and honey. High alcohol. Medium length, with a hot finish. Good.
