Work Wine Tasting - Riesling, Pinot & Syrah (Home): Nicely dark fruit, quite spicy with glossy top notes. Medium weight with nice acidity balancing the red fruit. Spices and a touch of development on the finish. Long. Lovely. ****

Dark fleshy ruby to dark garnet at the rim. Full nose, dark red to black briary fruit, slightly smokey, some spice, meaty. Very rounded dark fruit and quite plush on entry. Rounded and ripe mid-palate and reasonable length. Quite a big, almost voluptuous pinot but not overdone. Not as new-world as I was expecting but nor is it burgundian. Nicely balanced though possibly just a little sweet. This is really very decent. ***1/2 to ****

Very dark blood/ruby, a touch of orange in the rim. Lovely nose - quite delicate, but very Pinot, with a lovely meaty streak under blackcurrant and bilberry fruit. A little wild. Mouth entry is quite cool and spicy and very well balanced. Nice depth of fruit and minerality on the mid-palate which is a bit pinched on opening. After a couple of hours it opens nicely, showing a fascinating mixture of bramble, licorice and even a touch of anise. Gamey and very satisfying, but in a very NOT Burgundian style. Superby integrated and quite unique. 4+
