I've had a few bottles of this recently and they have all been pretty grim, which is a surprise because the first time I had this wine I loved it. Rather muted and flat note with none of the verve and flavour of my first bottle (see previous note). All rather leaden and heavy with no zip. Poor. A bad case of bottles? Who knows.

Wow - what a surprise. This is a beautifully balanced, complex wine - it is more St Julien than SA Syrah. On the nose complex elegant fruit with notes of cedar, damp earth. In the mouth medium bodied with fine tannins and a lovely freshness that really adds an incredible amount of complexity to this wine. Excellent and a steal at £12.

Domaine Direct tasting (Uncorked): Peppery, spicey, meaty nose. Good tannins and depth of flavour. This is clean, pure, ripe, and laid back. There's no overexcited winemaking going on here, thank goodness. Could, could be Northern Rhone. Very satisfying and complete wine.

This was an unsophisticated, rather rough Syrah. Didn't improve with time/aeration. Not recommended and would not buy again.
