  • Popped and poured a small glass then let it sit in its bottle for an hour. Color was a dark ruby and the nose was slightly floral with the aroma of dark berries and over time it developed a bit of tar. At first I didn't like this seemed a bit to tart for my taste but it balanced out a bit. The tartness, although still there, subsided a bit and the fruit started to show nicely by the second glass. The mid pallet wasn't too interesting but you could coax out the tannins with a little slurping. I'd say the finish was about med to long this wine held very nicely. Did not get any heat as suggested by others. At 8 bucks this was well worth it, easy to drink yet pretty interesting.

  • This medium bodied, slightly fruit forward, dry red wine is an easy and tasty way to introduce yourself to uncommon grape varietals since it's blended with the popular varietal Cabernet Sauvignon. It had a great quality to price ratio. I bought it for under $10. This wine went well with the savory dry rubbed BBQ pork ribs I made for dinner. It was a blend of 59% Cabernet and 41% Pinotage. Pinotage is a cross (not hybrid) of two grape vines, Pinot Noir and Cinsault, from the same genus and species (vitus vinifera). It is THE signature grape varietal of South Africa. When Pinotage is made well, it's wonderful and this wine is! When Pinotage is not made well, it can smell and taste like you're dragging a roasted wild boar down a tar road and burning rubber at the same time! SIGHT - clear, dark, ruby with a pink rim. AROMAS & FLAVORS - brambly wild blackberry, fresh raspberry, black cherry liquer, vanilla bean, cedar, mint, fresh tomato on the vine, sage, thyme, subtle dusty earth or mineral, subtle oak. It had moderate tannins. ALCOHOL - 13.5%

  • Had this poured originally at Cirque del Soliel. Great flavor. Dark cherries, blackberries, and a hint of grapefruit. YUM!

  • Pretty transparent deep ruby color. A bit of grass, smoke, tar and pepper on the nose but not a real deep nose. I guess what I like about this wine is that it is a different cheap wine. Not sweet and too fruity. It has some smoke, tar, spice and leather with the fruit. Short finish but pleasant reasonably clean finish with no funk or sourness. You really have to swish it around to get all the tastes out of it. Not to imply complexity but its at least not your average cheap wine. In the past, its been much better on the 2nd day. We shall see.....
