What an incredible RRV Zin. Smells like a Zin, drinks like a Pinot. Delicate at 15.8% ABV. Not a huge fruit bomb Zin, but ripe and balanced with acidity only RRV can provide. Bought upon release at tasting room from Nick. Thanks for the treat.

Last of eight bottles purchased back in 2012. I had lost track of this bottle and found it buried deep in my cellar. Like the last bottle enjoyed back in 2015, the cork totally disintegrated upon opening, forcing me to strain the wine into a decanter in order to drink it. Surprisingly, the wine is still very drinkable, but fully mature. Smooth and balanced with aromas and flavors of brambly raspberries, dried cherries, and dark, smokey plums, underscored with spice, and gritty coffee grounds. Acidity supports a solid finish. Very good food wine. Still excellent, but recommend drinking in the near term.

My earlier note ("Lots of sediment...") was the short version. I didn't post the long version because the cork was partially compromised and although the wine was drinkable, it was a hot, disjointed, slightly oxidized bramble-bomb. Guess I could have gone with "flawed bottle" and been more descriptive but I didn't. Thankfully, the second of my two bottles was everything I had hoped the first bottle would be. The cork came out clean, which was a good sign. Some sediment on it but no wine seeping up the sides like the previous cork. Nose of cherry, kirsch, raspberry and earth. Cherry, cassis, raspberry and leather palate with bramble and spice coming into play on the mid-palate and carrying through the medium+ finish. Juicy mouthfeel followed by firm tannins, I really like how it transitions from the front end to the back. Fair amount of sediment but less than last time. Very enjoyable, glad I had a second bottle to experience what this wine really has to offer.
