Deep garnet in color with slight bricking edge. Nose of dark cherries, tobacco, and hint of menthol and earth. Tastes of dark cherries, menthol, and leather. Drinking icely, particularly with food. Probably past its prime, but nice for the age. Drink up.

Purpurrot im Glas, dezentes Bukett nach dunklen Früchten, Graphit, am Gaumen Cabernet-Noten, wenig Frucht, erdig, mineralisch, mürbe Tannine, etwas stumpf, moderate Säure, mittleres Gerüst, Abgang mittellang. Gesamteindruck etwas gezehrt.

I guess it is possible that I just waited too long to open this bottle. But there is still some fruit present. I just don’t think that it ever was built to develop secondary and tertiary flavors. And that in the end is the issue here. There is nothing overtly wrong with the wine. Tannins are smooth, the acidity is a little too bright for me, but not offensive. Some sour cherry is still there. But having said that for a wine with this much age there it is still a simple wine at its core. On the plus side, it meshed very well with a rich tomato sauce.

Coravin glass. No age tell on the color, or rim. Strong musty, herbal nose. Leather and mocha flavors dominate the palate, with little to no fruit and a serious after-tang. Medium body. Long, slightly unpleasant finish. For me, far past its prime. Another example of why I prefer younger wines.

Mellow and soft plum and mulberry fruit. Lovely freshness and recognisably Sangiovese nite to the mid-palate and finish. Fully resolved. Lovely. ****
