  • Screwcap. Sweaty saddle, earth, farmyard. Herbal notes of eucalyptus and green capsicum. There are preserved fruit flavours of cherry and prune, but they are overshadowed by the earthy (Bretty?) character and the eucalyptus notes. Tannin is plentiful, but faded and soft.

  • {Screw cap}
    Had a few of of these well before I was on CT, in its early disguise was always in discussion for wine of the night

    dark purple plum, Mineral flint, smoked turkey, black pepper, vanilla, leather
    wonderful purple fruit palate: plum, mulberry, aniseed.
    Finishes medium, lush, soft, with a satisfying fruity flavour after each swallow, but little in the way of tannin or finish.

    Excellent Hunter/Mudgee shz/cab wine in the twilight of powers, given the softness of tannins, low acid, this is ready now.

  • Last Tuesday Supper Club (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Slight leather, plums, earth, a little smoked bacon, slight alcohol warmth, black pepper, polished oak is in the background. Juicy, savoury, black fruits, medium minus intensity chalky tannins, slight alcohol warmth and slightly herbaceous cabernet underpin as well as meaty notes. Big friends with the pork dish.

  • {screwcap, 13.5%} OK. As for last September. Developed in a way, but a touch anonymous somehow. Tyrrells own vintage chart has this at optimum drinking. I'd agree. Medium-bodied, minimal tannin. Savoury Hunter fruit with a dark splash of currant. A touch four-square. Fair.

  • {screwcap, 13.5%} Developing nose; some plum and spice fruit; cranberries. Has a liqueured sweetness to it. The palate is soft and gently earthy, with a sweetness and a hint of rubber, vague bacterial and acetic volatility. All of which is to says it's interestingly tertiary. There are still low dusty tannins, pronounced acidity, and medium weight. It coats all the tongue, and has a sweetly rotten, medium/long finish. Very attractive, with plenty of these mouldy red flavours. A great Oz blend; 90% Brokenback vineyard shiraz, 10% cabernet from Mudgee's Colebatch vineyard; blended post-ferment and in oak 80/20 French & US. Ready now and over the next few years.
