  • A bottle (almost) forgotten in my cellar. A dusty bottle pulled while looking for something to perk up a casual dinner. Last of this vintage in my cellar, last note was 2012...:) Cork crumbled on the way out, strained and splash decanted. Valerie and I drank over 90 minutes.

Slightly faded garnet. Nose was showing during the decant - picked it up a couple feet away. Blue fruits, cassis, underbrush, leather on the nose. Smooth and rounded palate showing dark cherry, blueberry, baking spices. Blue fruits persist through the mid, showing some spice/pepper as well. Tannins are resolved and sweetened. Medium body and finish.

This bottle "made the journey", nicely aged, great texture, still expressive in the way you would expect from a 20+ yr old cab. The texture is notable. While I don't know the Merlot content from this vintage, guessing this is what is delivering the texture quality at this point. This is not likely to improve from here, this bottle seemed to have have few more years at this level - but I would drink up!

  • a bit over the top here....faded fruit, seawater, dust, integrated and nice...just on the downhill .

  • A great lively 2001 cab with perfect sweetness, bramble, baking spices, and youthful brilliance and power. Long, clean finish...Going strong, will last long, but can't see it getting any better than it already is...Would have scored even higher if had a little more heft in the middle...Very good! Drink at your leisure..

  • Truly beautiful wine. Spectacular in every way. Big fruit. Finesse. Did not get a big score in a great year. Seemed off and I thought the wine was better than the Tanzer score. It is. The wine still has years to go. I still have some 1997 Vineyard 29 "Estate" that is going strong. This is a great wine. The 2012 I am sure is a great wine but at $250 bucks a bottle the 2001s, 2002s, 2005s, and 2007s are looking like great buys. They have gotten a bit proud over time in my humble opinion but this is great juice. Fruit all the way. Every bit as good as the 2001 Vineyard 29 Estate.

  • Haven't had this wine in about 7 years. It's aged beautifully, it's right in its zone right now. Blueberry, black currant, dark cherry, vanilla, some chocolate. Ripe mid palate, medium/long finish. My guess is it has some time left, but no need wait.
