  • I poured this back around 2009 at the Boston Wine Expo. It was spectacular then. Now it is on the downside of the hill with the tannins fully resolved and the acidity taking the front of the stage. It was a good run.

  • Almost smells corked when first open, very dusty on the nose - old wood, tobacco, old leather. Tobacco and dark red fruits and charcoal on the palate. Decanted the wine at this point looking to see if some of these harsher edges blew off and they did seem to mellow out and the fruit started to come through with good concentration. Color is a bricked deep ruby, developed and medium plus concentration. 30 minutes more of air time reveals hazelnut, dark chocolate and light clove through the nose and vanilla and toasted nut on the palate. Tannin is fully resolved and softened and acid is still present and tart. This wine is good but I feel its best days are gone, not long gone but nonetheless in the rear view mirror. Drink it if you have it. Its fighting for dear life but still has something to give for sure.

  • Color: slightly bricking ruby
Nose: this changes quite a lot over time. It goes from a textbook sour cherry, violet, and tar profile just opened to a very powerful fresh strawberry with violet undertones. There is always a bitumen vibration through the wine along with a star anise and toasted fennel seed
Palate: smoothed out clearly by the time, this has a medium-full body with medium-high acidity and round tannins. The aromatics confirm the nose with bracing intensity. It's salty too which is a kind of surprise.
Finish: here we are a couple minutes after the last sip, and it's still here with me fully balanced and alive

Great bottle. A well made barolo, with the right amount of age to shine. I prefer barolo a little younger but this one after some air opens up and shines like a young nebbiolo with an added wave of complexity. Great spot right now.

  • Beautiful deep garnet colour.
Still some fruit left on the nose; rosehip, plums, mushroom, leather, licorice and menthol.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied with nice weight and a firm grip, a well balanced acidity and smooth but notable tannins. The aftertaste lingers for minutes. A lovely mature Barolo, but alas — this is my last bottle out of 12.
