Needed a 2 hour decant and a few degrees of temperature to start to show itself. 64 F. Color somewhere between garnet and cherry cola, with a slight bit of bricking. Earthy mushroom nose with a bit of tobacco and a slight floral character. Fading acidity, a bit of heat popping up with the lack of fruit to balance the relatively high ABV. Smooth, full-bodied wine. Subdued cherry fruit, cinnamon, spicy oak and blood orange notes on the palate. Was hoping for a better experience, having drunk well over 100 glasses from various vintages of this wine over the years, and loving the 2010 Brown Ranch a few months ago, but this wine is past its peak. Pleasant older Pinot, but I waited too long on this bottle.

Medium garnet color. Very appealing on the nose with ripe, perhaps slightly baked, red fruits with cherries, plum, a bit of sweet baking spice notes and a little brown sugar. I was concerned this would be over ripe and stewed on the palate given the 14.5% abv and the vintage. Similar flavors on the palate with a good amount of fruit and a silky mouthfeel with a bit of oak spice on the back end. Acid only about medium and not much tannin at all so I would not hold much longer because the fruit will eventually fade and then I am not sure what you would be left with. Very nice bottle of mature Carneros pinot.

Some below seem to have got unlucky. I tasted the 2000 with the owner 7 years ago at the vineyard and he advocated keeping the wines for a long period if you wanted to experience greater complexity associated with the tertiary development. It did not disappoint. Dark almost purple elements in the glass, the nose is full without being overpowering. Long rich and full but with the fruit further integrated and mixing with nose to give the hedonistic feel that Burgundy lovers seek but is often missing. A touch of minerality and balancing acidity make this a fully fledged wine worthy of Grand Cru status were it on the other side of the the pond! Bravo Dick!
