  • Decanted 30 minutes
Some bricking, still a deep red colour.
Tannins have been absorbed and the alcohol has softened. None of the burn often associated with the high alcohol of Amarone.
Fruit still clearly in evidence, smooth but not sweet. Some secondary flavours developing.
Very pleasant accompaniment to a slow cooked lamb / tomato dish.

  • mature amarone opened at a diner with friends who love amarone. In general, I am not at all a fan of amarone just lacking finesse and elegance.
This one quite light for an amarone, with developed coffee, earthiness, chocolate, dried leave flavors with quite faded fruit, but still very present on the finish (dark fruit, plum, raisin). The acidity is medium/high and the alcohol is high, but does not feel at all high which is good, just maybe on the finish. Overall a very good surprised and to my taste!! Great balance is the word here - surprising for an amarone !

  • *Same bottle as 2015-04-18 - Mascarello59

Was actually quite impressed with this. Shows what good a little age can do for simpler wines.

Medium+ intense aromas of cloves, raisins, cardamon, a bit of brett, raw meat, ceder, leather, tobacco and a little chocolate. Good complexity!

Not as good on the palate, but still doing more than I had expected. Medium+ acidity, a bit of sweet fruitiness, light bitterness, a touch of astringent tannins. A medium+ body with a decent intensity and length.

This really delivers quite a lot for just under 200SEK.

  • Decent wine, none of the cloying sweetness you sometimes find in amarone. This has a fairly subdued nose w peppery barnyard notes, dark fruit and some tobacco. Less body than expected, mouthfeel a little thin. Acidity rather high, surprisingly. Tannins are reasonably mellowed but the wine lacks complexity and does not linger.
