{magnum, cork, 11%} Mid/deep yellow, still with distinct green flashes. The noe is lovely; aged aromas of waxy lanolin, beeswax, honey and straw. Smells kind-of sweet - but not 'palate-sweet' at all. Some vanilla bean at the end of the bouquet, but not oak-derived. Palate is in two parts; the flavours, which match the nose, and the structure, which disappoints. Taste is all of honey and mead and toast; attractively aged, and genuinely beautiful and bewitching, but the structure seems to have collapsed totally, with minimal acid to support the wine (crucial with HV semillon), and a short, almost flat, pale finish. Gosh, the disappointment is quite epic. It's the kind of wine you'd sniff all day, but shouldn't actually taste. What a bugger! Quite aged, even in this later format, and medium bodied initially - but let down by the finish. Drink up, I suppose.

Medium golden, with a waxy nose of green apples, seashells, some spice maybe cardamom, and slightly underripe citrus. Add to this fresh macintosh apple. Refreshing and razor sharp acidity that has softened over the last few years since I've last had this. Mouthwatering, lemon rind, minerals, marzipan, more waxiness combined with bright acidity that has softened a little. this seems to be just getting out of the adolescent phase and getting onto where I love Hunter Semillon. Not that this wasn't really fine, but I will wait three years before the next blle. Love this stuff. Why don't I have more of this is the cellar? 90 pts

Glorious golden colour, developing character on the nose, palate indicates still some way to go, honey/butter characteristics developing but still quite sharp 2-3 more years to peak I think
