Gave this a couple hours of air before serving. Dark ruby red. The nose showed strong notes of balsamico & tar accenting red fruit. Medium bodied, less ripe fruit than expected for the vintage. The fruit is elegantly styled, it lacks some intensity & power however. The tannins have not receded & become more palatable as the wine breathes & pairs with the meal. This is a good wine, but never really unfurls or reveals itself. The fruit/structure balance seems a bit disjointed as well.

The color of this wine might suggest a 20 to 30 year old vintage, not 10 years. Apparently, it was not stored well prior to my receipt of the bottle; pointing to the need to deal with a reputable source. The oxidation of this wine was dominant, but I could detect hints of some nice fruit long spoiled and some nice anise and spice that would have been fun for a bottle in better shape.

Enjoyable, but not a great one. Fruit came up a bit short. There may be some improvements with more time on the shelf, but maybe not. The fruit may not be able to carry the day much beyond where it is now. The sweetness and brightness I associate with really great Piemonte nebbiolo is in short supply.

Aged well. Violets, Leather, and Licorice with balanced tannins. Nice and chewy. A little "hot" ... over aged?
