  • I was expecting this, at nearly 25 years of age, to be a darkish colour. But no - not in the slightest: a pale greenish yellow gold.
Wow. What a glorious nose: fresh, much more limey than appley, and the stony-cum-petrolly minerality is just so extremely elegant.
The palate is verging on the ethereal - certainly eye-rollingly lovely. Very, very pure and elegant. Not at all sweet, thanks to a glorious acidity. There's a little touch of honey flavours on the palate, but on the finish, there's a real tannic, crab apple sourness. Far greater length than a wine with a mere 8% abv really deserves.
    Quite remarkably youthful.

  • 1998 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Spätlese (Duitsland, Mosel Saar Ruwer) Kleur: Strogeel Aroma / bouquet: Niet heel expressief en complex, beetje zoet tropisch fruit, honing, boenwas, beetje floraal, Smaak / Afdronk: Prachtige frisse aanzet, voor dit type opvallend 'dun', beetje caramellerig, lager suikergehalte. Veel frisheid, ook in de finale. Algemeen / potentieel: Heel ander type wijn. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 7 + Smaak / Afdronk: 10 + Algemeen / potentieel: 6 = 78/100

Now quite a lemony colour, but still very pale. Gorgeous nose, still feeling remarkably youthful. Sherbetty character, very lively. Some apples, some lime, some grapefruit. Lovely palate. Very pure riesling fruit with faint traces of honey, but balanced with nice acidity and a very pleasant tart, sour apple character, almost like a crab apple. Good length with a hint of florality on the finish. Lovely stuff.

  • Pleasant sweetness of honey in the bouquet and even more pineapple. The taste offers good acidity with impressions of sweetness and minerals. Good balance.

A stoney-slatey-minerally nose with some developing kerosene notes greets you. It’s a touch sweet on the attack, but that’s followed up by a very integrated feeling in the mouth. There’s lots of minerality and some lovely acidity. Some quince fruit flavours appear on the finish.
