Deep garnet in color with slight brick edge. Nose of dark cherries, mocha, and hint of earth and tobacco. Lovely rich tastes of bing cherries, moca, tobacco, leather, and earth. Supple, rich, and elegant. A lovely example of the 2003 vintage. Probably at its peak but should last another 5+ years.

Smooth Brunello. This bottle drank very well, better than previous bottles in 2011 and 2014. Decanted for 45 minutes and throughout drinking. Dark cherries and leather.

Camphor and ether on the nose. On the palate, cherry, rhubarb, strawberry, and a bit of white pepper, with light tannins and good acidity. Although this shows no sign of having been cooked like so many other 2003 Brunellos, it also doesn't have the power and complexity it should. This is good Sangiovese, and it's easy to drink, but it's not impressive as a Brunello should be. Below average value at about $40.

Ether and a bit of bandaid on the nose. On the palate, black cherry with notes of white pepper, strawberry, and leather, with moderate drying tannins and moderate acidity. Unlike several other 2003 Brunellos I have had, this isn't badly cooked, although it shows the effect of the hot year. It's good, but not memorably so, and for $40 it's not hard to find better examples of Sangiovese.
