Rarities dinner “Spectacular Californians” late Nov 2021: pale yellow amber color; extreme intense nose of caramel and butterscotch; mild and round on the palate. 93-94/100
Best white wine served. Immense staying power of the bouquet: even after approx. 2 h in the glass still very strong.

Afghanistan Greg Dinner with the Crew (Wildfire Chicago): Really nice. Outshone the $120 Lail Georgia SB in fact. Not nearly as rich and heavy as I expected. Actually came across lighter to me with a lot of mineral notes - wet granite, little spice and flowers. Lots of tropical melon, cantaloupe and a bit of lemon lime peel. The palate is in balance and you can sense the age of this wine. Absolutely a winner and drinking well now. Not over the top which I enjoyed - many Ritchie Chard can be cloying and too dense - not this one.

Has come together surprisingly well, retaining the high notes of the Ritchie wines with a full and rich, honeyed body. Very harmonious and pleasant, although maybe a touch too monolithic.

Nose is more complex and deeper this year, but the palate is heading in a softer, thick direction. Paired with butternut squash/artichoke rissotto and Mahi-Mahi, thinking a richer dish would balance, but the wine's weight and lack of vibrancy did not work well. After dinner the expressive, penetrating fruit was better appreciated - as noted by ccotton, warming helps.

(Ramey Ritchie Chardonnay) #3; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-a little tight; a little apple slice, but not doing it for me; PALATE-very disappointing; very sharp acidity which is nice; a little heat, but dramatically boring; not showing a really distinct flavor profile; lacking terroir, nuance and charisma; Ramey is one of the top producers in all of California so this is quite disappointing; very run of the mill $20-$30 California Chard for my palate; WS-95; GV-89
