Medium garnet core, pale garnet/mahogany rim. Developed, earthy, hint of leather, odd whiff of oxidation, slight bloody edge. Medium bodied, fruitier than nose, spicy, sour red cherry, earth, touch of leather, slight hint of oxidation from time to time, lovely tangy acids, soft tannins, good length, meaty, slightly savoury/bloody finish. Mature, harmonious, perhaps just starting its descent. Drink up.

A private dinner hosted by Chris Janselijn, Mattijs Koornneef & Midas van der Meiden (Restaurant The Lobby Fizeaustraat, Hotel V, Amsterdam, NL): An absolutely beautiful Chianti Classico, perfectly fresh, a fantastic expression of grape, terroir and vintage. Clearly beats the 2004, 2007 and 2008 Riservas also tasted today, firm but elegant tannins, intense and refined, smoky finish, very good length. Very impressive, but without the complexity required for a higher score.
