Tatsing on February 12th all blind (SLC): A truly beautiful wine. Big and bold, yet still balanced and with great depth. Tomato leaf, oregano and with sour cherry and cranberry on the nose and palate. Big tannins that are still quite tight.

Brought to a casual lunch session and bottle breath for about 45 minutes before serving. Bright ruby core with faded brick red rim showing its aged. Expressive aromas of sour cherry, dark cherry, nice perfume toasty oak and hints of dusty earth. Medium bodied, very good acidity lifted the freshness, balance and supple, exhibits sour cherry, leather and hints of spicy oak aftertaste. Finishes long with soft chewy tannins. Drinking so well now, soft and smooth with nice rustic character of Sangiovese.

Popped, decanted and consumed with a pork tenderloin dinner. Dark and dense eggplant color with dark fruit and floral notes on the nose. Light-medium bodied with substantial fruit, fully integrated tanins and acidity. Well balanced. Medium length finish.

I must admit I was somewhat ambivalent due to the reviews herein. However, I loved this! Great balance, showing darker fruit than I anticipated and a finish comparable to similarly priced wines from this region - only less hot, IMHO. What is it about these wines from this vintage? I've found gems, like this, and a bunch of underwhelming selections as well. All this said, this one could use another year or so - or decant for a few hours now.
