  • Bought this bottle at the winery's Napa Valley tasting room for $32 and drank with curried lamb shanks and bharta (Indian-style curried eggplant). In the glass, this wine is a nicely dark, opaque garnet (not almost-black like Petite Sirah, but relatively dark) with a smoky, earthy, fruity bouquet. The wine is nicely rich, delicious, and complex, with the perfect amount of oak. Up front on the palate, the fruit is nicely restrained/balanced (rich blackberries and plums), followed by nicely-controlled tannins (the wine is beautifully structured, with a pefect amount of acid). There are notes of smoke/tobacco, lots of earthy terroir, with a smooth, mellow finish. Based on the wine's richness and opaqueness, I'm assuming the wine is unfiltered and unfined. This wine paried beautifully with the lamb shanks and would also pair well with most red meats, like steaks and pot roast. This is a very nice, rich, delicious red. At the tasting room, this was by far our favorite wine that they were pouring. We were not disappointed half a year later. Sadly, we were charged a tasting fee in addition to our purchase, so we won't be going back.
