  • I am surprised this has a still dark if faded ruby color. Still has legs—literally. Nose starting to emerge after a few minutes for some funk to blow off. Bell pepper and faint floral note. Silky smooth texture, yet good grip. Good fruit. My initial impression after 1/2 hour is that this might blossom with more air into a very interesting and enjoyable wine. Will revisit later. . . . Well now, I am certainly no expert when it comes to Chinons of this age, but I can say that this is very much alive, drinking beautifully after sitting in the bottle in the cellar for a couple of hours, and tasting as good and as varietal as I’d hoped. Hides its 35 years well, but still I assume it has gotten as good as it can, no reason to wait on this any longer. A fine beauty indeed. 5-13-17-9: 94/100. (Adding this to note that the wine fully blossomed the next day. Really an awesome wine and quite an educational experience. For less than $100, this was well worth the price of admission.)

  • I clearly got one of the good bottles of this recently from Rare Wine Co. Though the cork was soaked, this bottled opened immediately with a decant off sediment. Tried right away, this showed a garnet bowl with lighter meniscus. Notes of dusty red cherries, mulled red plum, leather, loam, green tobacco, cranberry, and violet emerge and persist. Elegant and slightly better after an hour! Saving this is nuts! Pick your special occasion and cross your fingers! 92+

  • Lots and lots of sewer and manure combined with a strange chemical note reminiscent of chlorine. Gets better with air, but does not disapear. There is still some fruit but getting thin.

  • Transparent ruby color. Nose: Aged damp cotton cloth. Palate: Light body, slightly dry, low acid, and aged red fruit. Very mellow wine. Finish drops yyoff quickly but lingers surprising long. I did not decant. Straight from the bottle. Gave it a higher rating for holding its age. 😀

I let 1/2 a bottle sit in the bottle 24hrs… nose changed to earth and ripe fruit. Gone is the damp rag nose. Palate: rich violet. The finish is much longer. I would give it 93 today.

  • Clear, garnet red;nose of wet metal-iron,damp vegetation, after decant Bell pepper notes which persist throughout the meal; mid palate is thin, herbal, a little dill; fast finish leaving a waxy feel although that does not last long. Overall impression is of under-ripe fruit.
