This was tasted next to the Dessilani Caramino Riservas from 95 and 97 (see my tasting notes). The color is a strong ruby, more opaque than the Caraminos. Lovely nose of bright and dark cherry and a hint of oncoming leather, though onset of the secondary and tertiary may be a few years off. There is also a tannic grip that tells me this wine could easily go another decade.

Medium dark red with bright but slightly bricking edges. Woody, charred aromas, with subtle mediterannean scrub and some mentholly pomegranate too. Grainy but finely so and endowed with a gentle, natural sweetness that carries it through almost to the finish, where slightly dry and slightly bitter tannin becomes detectable. Impressive length for such a modestly pedigreed Nebbiolo.

Probably just enjoyed this bottle better this time around. Potpourri, dried fruit and a heavy dusting of thyme.
