  • {screwcap, 14%} Garnet. Developing; gentle leafy and composty pinot aromas; not much oak. The palate has fairly generic 'new world pinot' flavours, so not a lot of earth, but not too much jam either; this is fairly middle-of-the-road in that sense. It's medium-bodied, with soft dusty tannins, well-judged medium acidity, and a medium-length finish. It just doesn't seem to have done much other than age gently (ie. integrate) without developing great nuance or depth. Avoids alcoholic heat. Good wine, but not more than that. No rush to drink either - surely another half-dozen years is no problem - but I wouldn't keep it in hopes of great evolution either.

  • {screwcap, 14%} The previous bottle got scant attention; hence the prompt retaste. This is slightly developing, with a little cured meat character to the strawberry aromas. The palate is somwehat polished; it's not really earthy, it's not fruity; there's almost a varnish-like quality to it, as though you can't get to the real character beneath. Tannins are quite soft, and acid is still fairly prominent; it's very authentically pinot in its forest floor/strawberry/meaty flavours, but it's no charmer, that's for sure. Medium weight, and with a dry medium length finish; I'm inclined to give my remaining bottle another 3 years or so to observe developments. Also, shouldn't be chilled too much; that seems to really close it up.

  • Way better than I'd have thought from my 2008 note. Somewhat mature, but still identifiably fruity, and with very much a cherried/strawberry pinot range of flavours, it's light-medium bodied, with finely ground tannins and medium acidity. Perhaps a bit simple, but that's being harsh, and making it play well out of its price range. Tidy wine with no real rush to drink; this should last another 5 years easy.

  • A developed red in colour, there is an elegant savouriness to the nose with drying cherry characters backed by grainy oak.

The wine shows good complexity on the palate, with textural contrast between toasted oak, lean cherry fruits, and earthy tannins giving a complete and enjoyable mouth feel. The finish has limited fruit but a good hit of stem and earth.

As with a number of Tasmanian Pinot's this wine will continue to evolve with some additional time in the cellar.

  • Firm but tangy and light. Bitter fruits to finish. Quite smart.
