Aromatic aromas of crisp blackberry and plum with a hint of smoke. Medium off-dry, fairly balanced but a bit too excessive alcohol to taste. Moderate flavors of cigar on the front, earthy wood-like and a little plum fruit mid-palete to a short finish. Thought this would have improved with age, but failed. Not a bad wine, just not something I would purchase again.

The grapes for this award-winning Syrah were estate-grown from Morningsong Vineyards in Dry Creek Valley. This is a classic, muscular Syrah with aromas of black currant, vanilla and tobacco tones on the palate.

Lot of violet and fresh raspberry in the nose. Takes an hour or so after opening before that can be tasted since there was some serious astringency right after the cork popped. Once things settled down, though, this was a nice Syrah with great indigo color, nice mouth feel, and a good balance. Paired well with braised short ribs.

Not as good as the 2003 magnum we drank last July, this was classic Amista in it's flavour profile.
