During a Burg dinner. Very nice showing of this wine. Lovley, gamey nose with earth and licorice. The palate can not really follow up and was a bit to thin for what the nose announced. Nose 95, Palate 92.

Ramonet Dinner (Park Palace, Grand Park Hotel): Disappointing after the wonderful 2005 that we had a few weeks back. It started out rather poorly in fact. Served blind, it got me guessing an acidified Aussie pinot, with rubberband and haw flakes on the nose and lots of sweet cherry and spiky acidity. To the wine's credit, it did improve dramatically with a little time in the glass, to show roses, dried flowers, orange peel, slightly dried strawberries and high toned-Eucalyptus and a touch of cola - rather nice actually. The sharp acidity on the palate never quite went away, but it did cede the foreground to sweet cherry cola flavours and flower accents. A little disjointed at first, but it came into focus and balance. Shortish finish and a touch of leaness aside, I thought it was all in all a rather pleasant wine towards the end of the evening.

Domaine Ramonet 06 Pair-off (Grand Park Hotel): Zingy nose of dates and strawberries. Dainty sweet, very light and simple girl-next-door. Nice and unpretentious.
