  • Why isn't Jura pinot noir better known? This has every bit the character and class of a premier cru Burgundy. It opens with an enticing sweet briary scent reminiscent of Chambolle-Musigny, though eventually the fruit comes to dominate and the scent of just-crushed grapes fills the room so expansively that it smells like a winery in here. You can smell it in the glass six feet away. The palate features pure pinot fruit augmented by a greyer, more gravelly minerality than you might tend to find in a Cote d'Or pinot but the proportions are the same. Imagine Chambolle crossed with Pommard with some schisty goodness tossed in. The only thing detracting from its presentation at this point is a faintly carbonic spritziness that never entirely simmers down.
