  • Amazing how even after 7 years this wine displays itself very similarly to the past... that is, on night one it's virtually disgusting, showing tons of rancid moldy funk and is really not fun to consume. However, on night two this wine is fairly interesting, though not as good as that first bottle I opened. I left this bottle open to air in the cellar for 24 hours, where I sit now and write this note. Aromas show some crushed black cherry meat covered in graphite powder. Quite lovely aromas. Nice palate entry showing soft tannins, sweet cherry fruit, moderate acid, and a pretty young overall sensation in the mouth. Finish shows some of that funk noted on day one, along with a strong burn of acidity that's a little funky and off putting. So this wine still trends down from the nose to the finish, because I quite like the nose. Enjoyable still, but this was definitely better (with the day of air) in 2009. That said, this is structurally totally fine, and I bet would drink fine for another 15 years. Not sure what it would turn into though.

  • Blind Pinot Noir from Around The World (dbp's crib - Portland, OR): I really like the nose here. It's showing dark cherry scents with a bit of dark and soft cranberry that lines it up with Pinot Noir I'm fond of. A bit of dark smoke scents lurk in the background as well. Dark cherries show on the palate, but they aren't too full. The acidity is enjoyable and the whole thing has a gentle feel to it. The cherry flavors linger nicely. It's good, but there isn't a whole lot of complexity here, just a nice easy drinker.

  • Pinot Noirs from Around The World (BLIND!): The second I put this on my palate I knew exactly what this wine was, as it was acting just as it did the last time before it had sufficient air (read that note 10/14/2009). Since this wine requires a ton of air I decanted it for 6 hours before anyone arrived and clearly that was still not enough as it was showing very poorly throughout the night. The aromas were really funky and strange. A little bit like sweet garbage in a vanilla flavored plastic garbage bag. Really strange, and to steal a quote from my sister, "I can't tell if I really like this or if its really shitty!" The palate entry is what made this wine obvious to me: Tons and tons of moldy bread. I mean, it tasted EXACTLY like moldy bread and not much else. It's drying on the palate and pretty intense. The finish is more mold, funk, and spice. 85 points.

And now, the next day note as I did last time, 26 hours after opening and the bottle open the whole night: Different aromas now, but it's still a bit garbagey, though a different kind. This smells a bit chemically, like burning rubber and plastic. There's this underlying notion of sweet rotting pig covered in strawberries. Smells pretty nasty, honestly. Wow, the palate is still straight moldy bread. Really nasty; disgusting. Just a slight bit of strawberry fruit under the surface. Heavy acid builds on the finish and the mold starts strong but begins to fade. Bummer! I was expecting this to have the same revelation that it had last time after a ton of air. Weird... no transformation. In fact, I'd say it's even worse today than last night.

  • very similar to last time, except the aromatics were a tad more slow to emerge.

  • Some fine forest floor funk; good fruit; tannic; licorice; fresh acidity; medium finish. the nose is dominant but actually I find it quite enticing, whereas the body and follow through of this wine is more four square.
    Will try again tomorrow night.
(Tomorrow night:) has shed all of the funk. Now has almost a northern rhone feel with pure black currant and licorice. equally fine.
