An amazing bottle! Mellowed bing. soft mouth. Would never have guessed Alexander Valley would age 19 years so gracefully. Backbone for another 4-5 I’d think.

This 18 year old relatively inexpensive wine significantly exceeded my expectation that it would suffer from diminished fruit and color. Opaque purple with an inch pour. Inviting aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and lavender. Just about everything in this wine had aged beautifully into a pervasive roundness and integration - not just tannin, texture, and fruit, but even the acidity. Overall, a highly enjoyable silky smooth wine, and another example of how well the 2001 vintage in California turned out to age well, especially in Napa and Sonoma.

Pleasantly surprised. Nose hints of cranberry but after an hour of decanting this wine exhibited a rich blend of black cherry, cassis and molasses. May have been a fruit bomb when younger but quaffable in its current state. Color a beautiful garnet. Did throw a touch of sediment to the last glass. Have always enjoyed Alexander Valley cabs for their silky depth. Extremely pleasing considering this wines age.

Drank both bottles. Was worried that they might have aged out, but the wine was fresh and fruit forward, just like the earlier bottles. Not a serious wine, but everyone really liked it.

I bought over a case of this wine back in '04 as a QPR wine and enjoyed most of the bottles within the first two years. Paid ~ $20 per. Decided to hold a few bottles back to see how the wine would age. Tonight we are drinking the last bottle and I have to say the wine is still going strong. The color is a beautiful garnet with absolutely no browning or bricking apparent. The nose is very fruity with black cherry, spice and licorice. On the palate the wine is by no means young but it is certainly not at all over-the-hill. Balanced with integrated flavors of dark fruits, blackberry, cherry and spice. Medium finish. I would say this wine has enough backbone to hold at least for a few more years. I am happy to have tried this little experiment and find myself wishing that I had held a few more of these to see just how long the wine would hold.
