  • A pleasant surprise. There is a lot more wine here than I expected at the grocery store. Deep purple color. The nose is a little closed, but it is still pretty young. This is not made in the fruit forward style, but actually has some structure and depth. There is a noticeable hint of the barnyard on the nose. Ripe, civilized tannins. Balanced acidity. Not necessarily complex, but not simple either. Might prefer they used a little more oak. Dry finish.

  • Initial aromas of smoke and berries, are followed by flavors that seem a bit disjointed between the blackberry fruit and the toasted oak. Best for those who like round, oaky wines and the oakness is mellowed by food.

  • Pretty damn good at this price: $8.99. Opened up over an hour; paired perfectly with a mustard-braised leg of lamb. Surprising "old-world," with raspberry, pepper, dried herbs and, with time, a nice floral bouquet. A go-to for cheap Syrah.

  • A perfect compliment to our Chiante Braised Beef pasta dinner.

  • Popped this open for a party. Had a glass after the bottle was open for a couple of hours...This wine was labeled syrah...but perhaps a more apt description would be non-descript red wine.Very thin wine, with some red fruit on the nose and palate. Actually had a hint of funk which I guess was the syrah poking its head through, but it really led to nothing. I would say it had a hollow mid-palate, but that would imply that the start or finish was not hollow, and that was clearly not the case. While there was nothing that tasted out and out bad about the wine, there was nothing that really tasted at all...Jug wine in a small bottle...
