5/12, excellent cork. Decanted 1/2 hr. Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. The nose is quite developed showing plenty of smoke, earth and tobacco underneath red and black berry fruit. Medium bodied on the palate, mellow and soft with attractive fresh acidity and a good length harmonious finish. This is really drinking well though I don't think there's any need for particular hurry

The 2000 vintage of Larrivet-Haut-Brion is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged for 18 months in French oak barriques (40% new). From a bottle personally purchased upon release and cellared under ideal conditions, this wine was decanted off of its sediment and serially tasted over a three-hour period. Deep garnet in color, it shows no bricking at this stage. After the first hour in carafe, it fully opens aromatically, unleashing a bouquet of dark plum and black cherry fruit that is accented with baking spices, cigar tobacco, cured leather, roasted nuts and loam. Medium-bodied, well-lifted, seamlessly alcoholic (12.5%) and with fully integrated wood, it delivers flavors in line with the aromas. The tannins have not entirely melted but are silky-textured, giving the wine a soft and inviting mouthfeel. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this has matured beautifully. Comparably cellared bottles should provide pleasure for another decade or more. Drink now-2033.

Fully mature and slightly past its peak. Decanted for three hours and was perfect and after the 3 hr mark started to decline and the finish was somewhat diminished. Very savory with notes of graphite, leather and boysenberry. Decant for 1 to 2 hours and it will be at its most enjoyable Drink up!
