  • Very nice surprise. For one, the bottle had been stored in far from ideal conditions. Mostly at room temperature, at times subject to daylight. Did not give it more than 20% chance to be ok to begin with. If it was, I have no experience with longer term storage of Cavas, very limited experience of Cava of any kind to be honest. What I found? A wine in fine form! Dark yellow colour. Fine, but subdued bubbles. Initially fairly rich nose, trending toward exotic fruit, but just 30 min open and nose became fairly discrete. On the palate the bubbles are there, but more subdued than I typically find in a Champagne. Taste is crisp, dry (off dry, there is a hint of sweetness), citrusy, Fairly short, but very enjoyable finish. Way better than expected.

  • Nice nose, but far past its prime. Getting nothing on the palate. Boo-hoo, should have drank it last year!

  • Mixed emotions about this wine. I loved the layers of complexity here, with notes of brown butter, sandlewood, yeast and citrus fruits weaving in and out on both the nose and palate. In the mouth however, this seemed a bit flat with practically no sparkle. Perhaps bottled at too low of pressure? Seemed a bit round in the mouth, perhaps a function of the hot 2003 vintage? This could have been a contender...

  • Just ok, big bubbles, a bit flat.

  • A Taste of Spain's Wonderful Wines (Ross's Condo, New Orleans): Oak influence and yeasty lemon zest notes are present in this cava, which carries medium-sized bubbles and a good balance of palate-cleansing dryness and a bit of oaky vanilla sweetness from what I presume is new American barrels... Toasty yeast on the palate as well, with a sufficient and balanced finish. Not incredibly complex, but good QPR.
