Monthly Wine Group: Double Blind Pinots From Anywhere (Ciao Bella, Mpls): Bricked light-medium maroon red color. PNP, drank a tasting pour double blind over an hour plus. Wine #4. Beguiling nose of mushroom, tobacco, leather, tangy dried cherry, spices. The palate is well integrated, earthy, roasted meats, tangy delicate red currants, medium bodied leather and long with something I can't quite put my finger on too. Figured this was 20+ year old Burg, or maybe Oregon. It was revealed as 2000 California. Well in what would turn out to be the understatement of the evening, that was totally unexpected. What a fun and revealing wine.

Matt B's btl at Ciao Bella Bloomington MN - Double Blind PN tasting. This was the fooler of the night! Not sure I've ever had a 22yr old CA PN??? I was sure it was anything but CA PN. Maybe aged Oregon but i was betting on either a 15yr old plus Chevillon NSG or something from Gevrey Chambertin? The color was a faded amber red from center to the rim. The nose offered earthy garrigue aromas & some funk. The palate still had decent energy with fading red fruit, lots of earthiness, hint of leather, some more garrigue, licorice, cinnamon & funk. Never expected this to be 22yr old CA PN! Very fun.

MUCH better than my last bottle 8 years ago. A little funky at first but opened up to a beautiful pinot. Nice mouth feel, and enough complexity for a Thursday night. Honestly wasn't expecting much but was surprised.

Still kicking! Blended in nicely in a blind tasting of similarly aged Oregon, CA, and Burgs.
