From a magnum. Just fabulous. Fresh, no oxidation at all. Ripe mango and tropical notes, balanced by a fine acidity. Complex and lush, wonderful juice.

The "boy, I am a bit worried about this wine" week continued up through Sunday night. Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat is a legend, and that legend was largely built on his Chardonnays. I was excited to get five bottles of this a few years ago. Unfortunately, a couple of the bottles were rather close to awful. This one? Was not. It was fabulous: bright lemon and mango with plenty of oak, but with enough acidity to balance it all out, Excellent.
Retail $40. There are some times in your life that you have regrets: There was that person in high school that you always wanted to ask out but didn’t. You were away on a business trip and missed your son’s first home run. Or you wait just a bit too long to pull the cork on a great wine. There is little doubt in my mind that this wine was once great—it has great weight and flavors. It is also a dark golden color that reveals the sad truth: The wine is oxidized. I can’t help but think “If only I had opened this sooner….” Not rated.
Nose: Melons, lanolin, fragrant soapy note with a nice coating of buttery goodness.
Taste: Rounded and medium/full body on the palate, smooth with notes of citrus, pineapple with integrated oak. A touch of residual sugar was a nice element.
