What a wonderful wine! Opened three hours before New Year's Eve dinner. It opened great to discrete floral aromas, red fruit. Bright scarlett red, great body. It's acidity emerges as a primer, mixed with cherries, and a prolonged finish. Subtle flavor that became a great pairing for a Cantina style dinner: calf brains, tongue, manchego cheese grated schnitzel, Chamorro (pork shank).

Purchased as part of the Col d'Orcia historic vintages box together with 77 and 85. Opened 3.5 hrs before serving. On opening mainly tertiary with reduction notes. Garnet with brick edges. When served, at nose revealed some residual fruit: dried plum, black cherry, with liquorice, leather, toscano cigar, tar. At palate important structure, with velvety tannins and a good acidity. Perfectly balanced. Long finish. An incredible freshness for a wine of 34 years. It can age some more years, but I don't think it will improve. A great wine, subtle, elegant and still powerful.

Cork in excellent shape. Oxidized aromas of fig, raisin, soy and porcini. Sweet, thick and tired taste. Probably a heat damage along the way. Bummer!
