  • Opened at Otto e Mezzo in HK. Slow-oxed for a few hours and served blind.

I correctly guessed that this was a VR Village from an excellent producer (my first guess was Mugneret-Gibourg), but got the vintage wrong, going for 2014.

I was surprised to see that this was LB from 2007. This was served as a challenge to a conversation that occured earlier in the day regarding how Louis-Michel's wines have improved over time, thus leading some of us to avoid his wines from pre-2008. I'm very glad to be proven wrong, as this was fantastic. Sweet seductive red fruits on the nose, slight floral notes and extremely clean on the palate, befitting of Liger-Belair. Good structure and quite spicy at the end - probably courtesy of La Colombiere.

I don't see this getting much better, but if stored well this will continue drinking very well for some time.

Thanks to M for proving us wrong, and for the very generous treat!

  • Opened and got better throughout the 3 hours we drank it. Classic Vosne spices. Good precision and red fruits. Lots of character here with purity and finesse. One of the best 07s I have had and no rush to drink this one. Very giving right now.

  • Milton's Birthday Dinner with Magnums (Holland Park, Singapore): Wow. From a magnum served blind, most of us thought this was easily a good Vosne 1er Cru. It had a drop-dead gorgeous nose, with wafts pf lovely Vosne spice floating around a sweet core of cherries and blueberries, violets, then just a little twist of earthy sous bois. Lovely, heady, perfume stuff. The palate was showing absolutely beautifully. Soft, silky tannins; beautifully integrated acidity; fresh fruit - with dark cherries and red berries - violets; gentle notes of earth; all resolving into a soft, gentle, beautifully integrated finish with hints of spice and violet florals peeking out alongside a hint of an earthier, more minerally backbone. Like so many of the best CLB wines, this was a bottle oozing with charm and elegant finesse. An absolutely seductive mouthful, drinking so wonderfully on the night. One of the best village wines I have ever had, this magnum disappeared in record time.

  • Brought to restaurant Lieffroy, Nyborg DK. Opened an hour before, no decant. This wonderful Village is perfectly ready to enjoy at this moment. Enchanting nose of cherries, strawberries and spices. Light in the mouth and medium aftertaste. Have to look for more.

  • Produced from a 0.78 hectare plot of vieilles vignes (50 - 70 years old), 12.5% ABV; bottle no. 1,229 from 2,490 produced. It is always a wonderful moment when you put your nose into a glass and you know instantly "where you are". This wine could only ever be from Vosne. Fire and silk, Asian spices, red berries and roses, pure and precise, expressive, fragrant yet firm, fresh and seamless, lovely hint of elegant sweetness, suave yet with subtle grip from finely grained tannins, attractive hint of oak spice, mineral-inflected finish, long and seductive with red berries and a hint of cold tea. A superior village and a stunning 2007, vigorous and energetic but full of finesse and charm. A delight now and until 2020.
