Very big pungent, dark purple, velvety texture - perhaps a little over the top?. A little toasty for my liking and a slight bitter aftertaste (which we disguised by food). Better the second day.

I bought a mixed case of mid- to high-end Chilean reds and have the same complaint about all I've opened so far: over-extracted, too high in alcohol, overpowering and tiring to drink. Not enough acidity to balance nor (seemingly) enough tannins to suggest that these are going to improve with age. Chilean wines are generally reliable, and some of the cool climate wines (e.g. Elqui Valley Syrah) can be great but this, as with the others in the case, seems like it's trying too hard.

(Viña Tabalí Syrah Reserva Especial) The nose features jammy black raspberry and mint; cassis and sweet fruit fill the mouth, with hints of smoke. Delicious. Elqui and Limarí: Chile’s Northern Valleys

Fruity and well rounded, with a silky smooth personality and tannins. I've enjoyed it very much.

Superb. Big, fruity, smooth smooth tannins, at its peak now I'd say.

Far better than the first bottle. Spices, plums and blackberries. Still lacking in acidity and a bit overdone but pretty enjoyable.
