  • Compared to the wines that preceded it (Rousseau, Mugnier, Vogue, Leflaive) this was like bringing a knife to a gun fight. It was totally outclassed, and was hard to judge on its own merits. I found it to be slightly herbacious, which I actually enjoy when there's also ample fruit. To my palate, there was not enough fruit here. It's soft, and it's an enjoyable wine, but it's not great.

  • Consumed over two days. This began to open up after about 60 minutes and was hard before that. The nose showed high-toned red fruit and had a distinctive astringency which existed throughout the duration of the bottle, similar to warm apple cider and a touch vegetal. A noticeable amount of brett had me concerned at first, but its aromas faded with air. The nose also showed notes of cigar smoke, dust, rhubarb / root. There was a slightly rustic nature which detracted from the elegance of the wine. The palate retains some grip, however the fruit has begun to give way to secondary flavors such as cigar ash, church pew, oiled leather. On day two these had come together quite nicely and the fruit had gained some traction. The finish shows some sweetness as it closes out however it is rather abbreviated. Good – Tough to say where it will go from here as it seemed a bit out of step, though this could have been a slightly mistreated bottle.

  • Ummmm. Pale brick to clear color. Subtle cherry, dry earth and braised beef nose. Mature and just lovely. Rich yet spry palate that has good depth and a lasting finish that holds up very well. A fine bottle that is drinking very well tonight. (93)

  • Like 20 questions. Animal, mineral or vegetable. Had it all in the nose. Dark fruits, meatiness, wet stone and some toasty oak to round it all out. Subtle it is not. Sweet and sappy with the oak definitely playing a bit more of a starring role than I would care for but there is no denying the ripe and bountiful fruit that is in the wine. Not especially tannic, if anything, it was round and even a touch slick. I would be interested to see this in the future put into a blind tasting with some domestic wines and see if people can pick this out as what it is. Very smooth, pleasing and even easy palate. Lots of flavor, intensity and style if not tremendously complex. Very good for sure but quite sultry.

  • Light color, red rim, lightly extracted. On the nose a slight whif of TCA as mentioned previously, still very pretty, mature Pinot aromatics with very bright and pure red cherry fruits, barrique baking spices, coffee, and a light floral component. On the palate a very firm and steep ascent of high acidity, a moderately wide and firmish Pinot midpalate that transitions quite nicely into a very well integrated, moderate tannin finish that lasts about 20-30 seconds. Very nice balance though slightly firm, good length, adequate intensity and complexity. The wine has moderate + finesse, a fine but firm texture, and expresses its village and Cru status admirably. This is pretty close to peak where it will enjoy several years...very good wine.

(Louis Jadot Clos de la Roche) Bricking garnet red color with pale meniscus; mature mushroom, chlorine and tart red fruit nose with a slight amount of TCA at first that fully bloomed after 20 minutes in the glass; tart mature red fruit, with light tobacco, rosehips and sous bois, with good acidity and grip; medium finish
