90's Burgs, TBA's, Madeiras and a Sherry (John V.'s): Also a wine that had been siting on John's counter. Iced tea in color. There is a strong hit of VA on the nose which never quite blew off. Much smoother on the palate. Tootsie rolls with candied oranges on the nose. More toffee on the palate. Sweeter than the other's in the flight IMO. Not the depth, but more powerful.

Clear, dark amber in color, exhibiting developed aromas of sultana, fig and plum infused with spiced notes of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and vanilla on base notes of coffee grounds, dark chocolate and leather. Sweet and full bodied on the palate with medium levels of acidity and alcohol presenting deeply expressive flavors of aforementioned profiles. Well integrated, beautifully structured with impeccable balance. The dazzling aromatics are accompanied by a palate clinging viscosity that provides a heady, seductively long lingering finish. Absolutely gorgeous! Drank well this evening and have every reason to believe it should do so for decades.

Gold/light brown, classic nutty sherry-like nose, intense with significant sweetness and acidity with too-strong streak of bitterness. Not my cup of tea.

Madeira @ Bistro Cacao (A Malvasia Affair) (Washington D.C.): Quite delicious for a relative "youngster". Dark flavors here... chocolate, coffee, damp earth and praline. Very deep on the mid-palate with some vanilla caramel notes. The acidity was on the medium to light side and the finish was a bit attenuated and had a dusty quality, hinting at cocoa powder. Excellent wine.

Mon's 56th Chef's Table in the Four Seasons Chicago (Four Seasons, Chicago): Mon's birthyear, wonderful with the dessert, dark amber color, dark honey flavor, smokey, clean, age worthy.
