  • From grapes purchased from the Quintessa Vineyard, and aged in Minnesota white oak. Garnet core, showing some age towards the rim. Opens with notes of cherry and red currants, with a touch of herbs and tobacco. With an hour in the decanter it puts on weight, and displays additional aromas of worn leatherand violets. Flavors of cherry and red currant turn to dark fruit and currants through the finish, which lingers just a bit. Nicely balanced.

  • Tasted during two vertical cab tastings (8 wines) at the winery, spring 2005 and 2006, as well as with gourmet appetizers made by their chef. At both vertical tastings this was an excellent wine with a long, smooth finish, and a wonderful nose with lots of subtle aromas as you came back to it. The tannins were soft, with complex flavors lingering. Best with an old bleu cheese or other cab-friendly food.
