En Magnum, tasted blind as the wine to follow a 2004 Salon and 1996 Krug. Big shoes to fill, and I think it did perfectly. This was served with a scallop with lentils, and seem to pair well with the lentils. This one was getting crazy guesses such as a 2005 Kistler Cuvee Catherine, Peter Michael. I guessed this was a Guigal Condrieu as it was a bit delicate for a Chardonnay yet did not seem to back down from the challenge of food. Some tropical and dried herb and white flour and white pepper notes here. And definitely more on the medium-bodied side. Not a full bodied wine by any stretch of the imagination. I think if this one was served from a 750, there would be quite a bit more oxidized character to this wine. Instead, served from magnum, this one is beautiful, but I feel this was probably the perfect time to serve this.

Incredible. Despite its 13 years, the colour is bright yellow barely hinting at its age. Long finish, thick texture but finishes with some spicy liveliness. Really fantastic and one of the top 10 CA Chardonnays I've enjoyed.

Showed just a touch oaky on Day 1, better the second day, with ripe apple and stone fruit integrated with hints of creamy vanilla laid over a nice mineral edge. This is much more reminiscent of Burgundy than CA. Not the depth or distinction of truly great white Burg, but shows a level of restraint and minerality that you rarely see from CA. A big hit with the crowd. Wish I had more.

Cellared since release. Clear light gold with greenish highlights; no sign of age or oxidation, a little off in the nose initially, petrol? On the palate crisp green apple fruit, good acidity, and medium body, excellent balance; will see how it develops over the evening with grilled Alaskan salmon. Surprisingly, I think this is still too young; I expect, given some older versions of this wine that I've had, that it will deepen and develop more complexity over the next 5 years.

A number of other Littoral whites had turned, but this one was still drinking beautifully.
