  • I like this right out of the bottle...fresh, tangy, vibrant fruit, cherry. But with time it loses freshness and picks up too much barnyard.

  • When first opened this tasted like Black Cherry soda, complete with fizz. It quickly settled down, revealing pleasant vegetable tinged aromas of rhubarb and blackberries. Strawberry rhubarb palate, with a vibrant lemon laced finish. As is usual with D&R this is mercurial and complex.

Day 2: Once again, the D&R Day 2 Dill Pickle flavor has appeared. Not as pronounced as in the Crozes-Hermitage, but definitely there. I'm sure this would be off putting to most - and I go back and forth on the question of whether it's a bug or a feature. In the St. Joseph this dill pickle flavor is more secondary than primary and adds complexity without overwhelming the other flavors. In the Crozes, it was THE primary flavor on the second day. It was an interesting evolution in an appealing wine, but if that had been the flavor that hit me on Day 1, I'm not so sure I could have gotten past it. In this case, if this was my initial exposure to the wine I would still have liked it a lot.

  • Not my style or idea of Rhone. Stored this really well. On the first night had very pretty delicate floral notes. (I had opened the 09 Printemps just a couple days prior.) On the second night it picked up more depth and was more "Rhone:" some raw meat and dark blackberry. Left some for Day 3 and by then it had turned - spoiled meat on the finish. Not a lot of structure that would suggest any value in storing for mid or long term. Natural, fresh and young expression of Rhone Syrah to drink early? Hard to justify at over $30 but probably a very modern-palate-friendly Rhone style.

  • Medium bodied. Nice pure syrah fruit. Black and red fruit flavours; hints of raw meat. Nice wine. I preferred it to the 2008, which I had a couple of days ago. 13% alcohol.

  • Aerated for about 10 minutes Talcum powder and strong floral notes right at the beginning then after it had been opened for about 1/2 an hour it transformed into very strong olive and barnyard notes. Like hutch below I also prefer the Croze better.
