  • Totally brilliant tonight! The pinots from star producer Keller obviously need a decade of cellaring before showing their best sides. Tonight the nose is just adorable with all the components one would expect from this varietal. There is very elegant yet powerful red fruits with red currant speaking up the loudest. The fruit is accompanied by lovely forest floor, strong stony minerals and a lovely tone of white flowers. The palate follows through in the same immaculate way with acidity being totally integrated. There is no sensation of oak anywhere and tannins are subtly expressed in the backend palate. Though there is still a texture and structure which adds positively to the experience. As always with Keller's wines elegance is best described as 'powerful' in this effort. The length on the finish is impressive, close to a minute or so, and I honestly think this is one of the best pinots I have ever tasted from Germany. A totally brilliant wine! (score is 95+)

  • Corked...but for the VERY briefest of moments I thought I glimpsed something of greatness before the wet paperbag scents started creeping in. A shame...

  • Absolutely profound. The 2008 Bürgel Spätburgunder delivers a very likable nose full of rainy deciduous forest, clean Pinot fruit and adorable massive minerality. The palate is nicely integrated with a very expressive acidity. Actually this effort reminds me of a dry "red" Riesling from Keller(!) It is certianly made with acidity as the hallmark. The length on the finish is very nice and lasts for about 45 seconds. If serving to food, be sure to increase acidity to a "striking" level in the food, otherwise this effort will not deliver at its best. The overall impression is very positive. This is a super effort from a star producer!
