Back in the day, after reading about the potential of the 07 Margaret river vintage, went a few weeks trying some WA shiraz(Cape Mentelle, Vasse Felix, voyager... and Leeuwin art) from this vintage, and this was my pick of bunch.
So, after some aging time in my storage (12 yrs), was surprised at the slow~ish pace this wine has been developing at.

From 2nd day: punchy purple fruit, eucalyptus, savoury and some oak features. Fruit and oak has nice balance currently.
med weight palate, fruit just rolling off the tongue.
delicious fruit driven 40sec finish, spicy and slightly chewy with med long tannins.

Wine is well in shape and on this tasting for my preference is nearing the peak of its powers. Could handle more cellar time, but I would enjoy this now to 3yr. A credit to the cellar

  • Fresh, medium body. Still young. Very good.

  • I love big syraz that are full of flavor and body. This doesn’t disappoint. I particularly like the deep cherry flavor and long finish. If you’re lucky enough to find this in the USA grab it.

  • Very dark red. Blackberry, smoke, oak, blackberry liqueur. Pepper, black fruit, vanilla and rather silky feel. Slightly drying finish. Very balanced for an Aussie.

  • (Bdays Brunner!) Green leather, dark spices, young, and hint of heat. Juicy with tall acidity, steely, leathers, spice and peppers. Still grippy. Surprising. Try again in 5 years.

(Leeuwin Estate Shiraz Art Series, Margaret River) Art Series Shiraz labels always feature aboriginal art. The ’07 is deep garnet in color, turning magenta on the rim. Scents of raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry develop into peppery, gamey flavors, accompanied by fresh acidity. Spicy French-oak tones appear on the warm finish. Winery Spotlight: Leeuwin Estate
