The 1994er Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese has beautiful amber color. Exhibits alluring nose of crysanthemum flower, honey syrup, almond, mandarin, pear, white tea with underlying slate minerality.
Just about off-dry with an extremely refreshing long acid-line that brings out lively all the rich and savoury flavours - dustiness, caramel, candied lemon, dried orchard fruits, slate, nuttiness. Superb concentration and precision.
This is an quinessential Egon Muller Riesling at maturity and should stay here at peak for many years.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Some German Whites: From a perfect bottle, high fill. Clear, medium lemon-golden still youthful color. Clean, medium- intense, not very expressive nose but very elegant, precise and complex. Fine woven aromas of slate, yellow fruit, a tiny bit of petrol and mature notes. Opens up with air. Off-dry, allmost dry. Medium+-high acidity, perfectly integrated and racy. 9% abv. On the palate veery young, elegant, harmonious and balanced with lots of pressure and tension. Lovely flavors of white and yellow stone fruit, very fine mineral notes, citrus, herbs and spices. Echoing in waves on the palate. Incredibly young and closed. Not yet on its peak, but already very good. That is a textbook example of a Saar Riesling! 92-93+ with potential to 95.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: German off-dry Riesling from the 90s (Private Location): A perfect bottle. Still so youthful and needs quite some time to come out it shell. Super fresh without any evidence of aging. White flowers, the typical “slate note”, just a wonderful hint of exotic underneath and a bit of citrus tart. Everything is finely interwoven but still a bit withdrawn. I think this Spätlese needs another 10-15 years to fully blossom. On the palate the acidity is on a perfect level. Very low sweetness, again lots of citrus flavours, a tart (in a good way) spice and a long finish. The most impressive thing about these wines are their inner balance. 93+

Oh boy this was beautiful. No notes taken, still fresh and would never have guessed the age. Super long finish.
