(RECIOTO Allegrini Giovanni) Recioto Dear Friends, Here's a wine I was able to confirm while on the ground running last night (yes, on a Saturday night) - it's as good as advertised. I first tasted this at a side-event organized around Vinitaly last year and it was served blind up against far more famous entrants such as Avignonesi Vin Santo. Not only did this wine hold its own, it was one of the only bottles the other dozen tasters at the table kept going back to once the wrapping was removed from the bottles (I'm not sure if it was because of how good it was or just from shock that it was Allegrini). Whatever the reason, I was among those enthralled and it's taken me a great deal of searching to come up with a parcel at a fair price. A Veronelli "Blue" 3/3 Star wine the last few years, this wine is not what I would call unknown in Italy but it seems to be relatively undiscovered in the US. If you enjoy the Recioto from Bussola or the other top contenders in the Veneto, this sumptuous and cerebral wine is not only about sweet satisfaction - it shows a firm sense of place which is not the norm for most dessert wine in this genre. An inspired effort that will satiate your holiday dinner guest come this fall and winter: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for sultry presence in a dignified frame. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from the source: 2005 Allegrini Recioto della Valpolicella (Giovanni) 500ml Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy5556

Raisin, grape, blueberry nectar, berry compote. Profound but simple.

Plump, round, superripe prune and luscious fruit. Outrageous liqueur that keeps in balance.

Dense, rich cherry, spice, plum. Enough acidity to really keep this from being heavy. Amazing wine.
