  • Leaking bottle, with some ullage. Full yellow with a golden tinge. Very ripe, but straightforward nose with a general background white peach character. The mouth was more interesting, with a nice line and sense of purity thanks to the restrained sweetness. Not as Hermannesque as the bottle in January. No spritzig noted. This was very good, again.

  • Full yellow with a golden tint. Though there is some quince and ripe apple, it is the expression of very ripe yellow peach on the nose which finds me drawing parallels with the older fruit-forward style Erdener Treppchen Spätlese from Dr. Hermann. Paraffin and wax show after an hour, which tell me that this has reached its maximum potential. The only other time I had this particular wine was back in May 2014 when it was a little peachy, but it also had that white fruit component which spelled Weiser-Künstler to me. Today it isn't. Maybe it is the inevitable consequence of regularly imbibing the producer's wines from the neighbouring Ellergrub. Perhaps it's both the vineyard and the vintage which are doing the talking now as I suppose they should?

Though only 7.0%, this has a lot of presence in the mouth with a ripe and broad peachy flavour, but still showing spritzig on the very tip of the tongue. An hour and a half after my meal of prawn and mussel pasta in creamy sauce, there seems to more spritzig than when the bottle was opened, with the palate gaining texture, length and creating much more interest. Some cream in the finish. With the meal the sweetness stood out, but not so after it. Furthermore, it gains energy. Close to a half-notch higher, but I'll rate it merely very good. I think it should be drunk by 2024.

  • Manadu Riesling Tasting; 3/6/2011-3/8/2011 (Washington, DC): Fifth Flight.

    Nose of peach pit, mineral.
Palate of light citrus peel, white grapefruit, mineral, and some heat.
I really think this was served out of order as the wine was very light.

  • Almost clear in color. Tasting this thinking "Like drinking a very light white grape juice. So light, so pure". And then realizing what an idiot I am because that IS what is being consumed. But a lovely super-light, fairly dry with a refreshing lingering wisp of a sweet tart finish.
