White Ports & Douro Reds (Sammamish, Washington): The first smell of this wine concerned me - I got campfire smoke, a hint of Sulphur, some mustiness, Earl Grey tea bags, and some subtle cinnamon on the nose. However, the odors eventually subsided and gave way to red fruits and cinnamon red hots candy. Red fruit dominated the palate and was underscored by some light spirit. Nice long finish with some red fruits and light spirit. For a rocky start, this wine evolved in my glass into a beauty.

Bottled in 2001. Had this at the end of a long night and didn't take any notes. Apparently there's been a bit of bottle variation with these. However, I remember this being really good, with nicely aged spicy sweet character with toffee shades. Not flabby by all means, sugar is well balanced by acidity. A wine of my birth year, this was a must buy when I saw it on the shelf of a Lisbon wine shop.

Cork is in good shape, this was bottled in 1998. Mostly red, bit of orange color. Red fruits and nuts, bit of heat in the nose, medium body, nice complexity with fruits and nuts carrying through on the palate, moderately sweet but well balanced, short-medium finish, very good to excellent.
