  • Pop & Pour: Very dark in color, in fact the bottom of the cork was almost jet black. Similar note as from two years ago, but the wine has integrated really well and is a complete pleasure to drink. This will pair wonderfully with most red meats.

  • Like the '08, very light on its feet and fresh with a bright red fruited core, touches of plum and high-toned peppery notes. Both this and the '08 Syrah reminded me of really good Loire Cabernet Franc with their high-toned flavours, lightness and a sense that these would be tremendous wines to follow over a few hours with food.

  • Very nice first effort from Jim. At Jim's suggestion, we had this with dinner which was shepherds pie. The color is a dark ruby and the nose has nice raspberry, plum, dark cherry and black pepper. The palate is more red fruit with tart plum as Richard described in an earlier note along with slight pepper. This wine is crisp and the acid is nicely balanced. This deserved a roast instead of shepherds pie, but the wine still went wonderfully with it. It was an honor to try this first effort and we have one bottle left to check in on in a few years. I'll definitely be a buyer in the future. Thanks to Jim for sharing these two bottles with us.

  • Quite nice considering it had been open a day. Very fresh, with sweet juicy medium red fruits and hints of savory and herbal notes on the nose, as well as a paint or ink note. Not profound, but delicious and definitely something Otto would call very moreish. I'd love to drink this again. 13.9%

(Cowan Cellars Syrah Dry Stack Vineyard) Bright red violet color; rather herbaceous, tart red fruit and mineral nose; slightly concentrated, tart red fruit, mineral, tart plum palate, with focus, that's very reminiscent of Cru Beaujolais; medium finish 90+ pts. (1 barrel made, won't be commercially released)
