  • Screwcap, 14% alc. Very deep, dark red.

Mostly primary aromas of dusty blackcurrant, mint, mulberry, violets, cedar box, and coffee oak that are rather subdued. The wine has just started to pick up some light tertiary aromas like earth, savoury black olives and deli meats, and wet concrete.

The first observation on the palate is the insistent chalky tannins. It also possesses firm-ish acid, and good but not great length. Lacks a bit of fruit stuffing; it’s all arms and legs right now. Resinous coffee oak dominates the finish. The palate starts to redeem itself by Day 3 with increasing intensity, but there is no escaping that oak.

Opinion: Dominated by oak and tannins; you’d have to wonder whether further time will be of any benefit. Thankfully, the oak and tannins appear to be of high quality, and the palate does begin to flesh out with time open. Try again in 3-5 years.

  • A very classic Coonawarra style cabernet. Its very well made with some blackberry and plum on the palate, with typical mint and eucalyptus. Medium bodied with a good length. Tannins are quite fine, but there is enough structure to make this an enjoyable wine. It also has some opportunity to develop further.

  • Opened onto classic dusty Coonawarra Cabernet notes with some leather and a hint of raisin. Palate took an hour to open up but never got rid of some heat on the finish. Just ok.

  • Dark Purple; Full bodied with berries to the fore. Tannins beginning to soften with a nice long finish. I really enjoyed this. A great Cabernet.

  • Coonawarra Roadshow (Menzies Hotel Sydney): Nose: leather, blackberry and currant, slightly lifted perfume and, very oddly, rhubarb
Mouth: More rhubarb! think my palate is getting a little tired. Perhaps some white pepper. not much of a finish and instantly forgettable.
