Mixed berry fruit, leaning more to the red spectrum with currant and cherry. Surprisingly still quite young, full of fruit. Velvety tannins and quite persistent. Splash decant at a restaurant. Lovely spot but no hurry.

According to the WA Vintage Guide: year 2000 in St.Julien was extraordinary. Wines are still tannic, youthful or slow to mature.96 pts!
Let's see if this is true. Sarget is the second wine of Chateau Gruaud -Larose. 🕐⏰🕙 90 minutes in the decanter. Smell? A lot of smoke! Hmmm. Earth, herbs, black cherry, blackberry, plum, milk chocolate. A touch of tobacco. All of them are from 23 years, cheap, second tier wine! Let's see what it can bring to my mouth and brain. First of all: acidity and tannins are here. They are soft of course, but visible. Taste - not so great like the smell, but still enjoyable.( 2-3 years too late?). Sweet profile with black cherry, blackberry, plum and milk chocolate Also cranberry and red currant. Weird. No spice at finish. Velvety texture. I think the wine lost its structure and balance. Despite that it's still highly drinkable. Third glass and of course you know what I will say... the wine is much better now. The smell is the same, but the taste is much sweeter with nicer acidity ( not so in first place), longer tannins with longer finish with spice, mostly cinnamon. And red cherry from beginning to the end. WS -91

This bottle seemed past its prime and well into the downslope. On the bland acidic side, not much fruit or much of anything left. 2 more in the cellar and hoping for a better showing.

From half bottle. Earth, red fruit, ample acidity and supple body with full resolved tannin, this was very nice today and shows very much as is expected for a 2nd wine from this St. Julien estate, bonus with some age. Drink up.

Too old, dry, tannic, austere
